So this my first post on this website shocked. So I am writing a book, well thinking about writing one anyway, but I have some questions that need some opinions. First let me give you some background information, I am 17 and that's pretty much all you need to know. Do you think the odds of a younger person like my self getting published would be high or low? And especially a book on philosophy, I am young so I am sure many would be skeptical of me because I don't have the whole Father Time look down. And my title "God, The Universe, And Peanut Butter" seems a little ostentatious for 17 year old. Don't worry they all tie together. It deals with God, the universe without him, and how people who fight against evolution use the most ridiculous arguments to say god is real I.E. peanut butter. So what do you think? I really have been wanting to write a book for the longest time, and I feel that my ideas should be at least heard.cool

When I was 18 I published a book. But it wasn't on philosophy. I'm 21 now, but I remember the steps, and the steps I took to publish were long and arduous, and I believe the steps to write a philosophy book are even more daunting, especially from someone who has no credibility. Of course...nothing is really stopping you from writing a book. Just don't expect much. I recommend self publishing on lulu.com first. They make you the book instantly and send it to your house. You can also put a bar code on it through Amazon.com and then you can sell your book locally for a start at barnes and noble or borders.

Publishing can be quite difficult...but sometimes people get lucky and find a lax publishing company. Publishers don't just publish anything, as you probably already know. You have to impress them with the first 5 pages. The evolution vs. ID argument is so "overdone" they may not care what you have to say because someone with a PHD has already said it. Unless you can contribute something amazing in their eyes, you won't even be considered.

1) you're 17

2) because of your age, you have to impress them with an ingenius repertoire. Of course, I don't know you personally, and you may very well be a philosophical genius. But you have to show them that.

You may actually be better off writing a history of some sort of philosophy rather than writing an actual thesis.

On another note...I realzed I was young and needed much more knowledge before I can even begin to write a philosophy book. Of course, that's just a personal thing. After reading Robert Nozick, I realized...why would I want to write a book when I am not at my prime? I just wanted to write a book so I could say I did. I was in a rush. You're young too... don't be in a rush to put yourself out in the world because they will tear you apart. I would wait a while, refine your ideas, and when you're ready, write the book that turns the philosophical/science community on its head.

Thanks for your thoughts Kelby. I have been planning on do this for some time now, 2 years to be exact. And you maybe right I mean the idea that I could somehow disprove god would drive the media and the philosophic community, if there is one, nuts. But my ideas are highly refined, the presentation may not be up to snuff but the idea is as good as its going to get. And I am sure I could find a publicist that would love to produce anti god material, even though it's not 100 percent anti-god its more the common idea of god. Richard Dawkins had his condescending dribble published so then maybe some kid who has an unconventional and unheard of argument(s), at least to my knowledge, could get published. And I have spoken to one other philosopher, my teacher, yes he is a philosophic nut, and said my argument was ground breaking on the anti-god side. Maybe I should make my own post about the argument and see what others think?

Sounds like a good idea. But at the same time...if it is absolutely amazing, someone may steal it. But this is up to you. I doubt anyone will take it on this forum because we're all bums anyway. I would love to hear your arguments though.
