Is art supposed to make us feel something? Is its purpose to create a catharsis of emotions as Aristotle said it did in Poetics? Should it inspire us, make us fear, laugh, cry? Or maybe art is just a platform for the artist to express what he feels.
I believe that different art has different purposes. Some art is meant to create a reaction deep inside the audience, and perhaps even change some of their perception, like some books can. Other art is meant to invoke a catharsis inside us, I know music does that for me. Art can also inspire people to create or do something. And other art is just a way for the artist to express him or herself, without meaning or wanting to do any of the above. Sometimes, an artist may not have any intention of the doing the above as well, but ends up doing so anyways.

I believe you answered your own question, art evokes many things in us, but most importantly it evolves us in many ways.

Art is supposed to make us feel connected. There's my stab at it.

We sense. We reason. We predict.
We don't always get those right.

i have already said this in another topic but the best way the express what art is the saying
"Art begins and ends with self expression - natsume soseki"
art is something that is created , the event what created the "art" is only the cause

it is to let an expression out , may it be calculated , spotaniously blown on the canvas , created over hunderds of years. it is still an expression , look at the mona lisa , how manny years did it take , how manny roads did it travel , what emotions were inflicted in it. i think that's the reason why it is so popular.

why people like certain art pieces is because they are atracted/inspired/in need of the art , or they see something in the art they want to express. it depends from person to person and changes over the seconds , not years it can just take seconds to totaly change the idea of an artpiece

I find this to be a strange question. Obviously a piece of art can't possibly make "everyone" feel something about it, let alone feeling a specific way. Some people can find all kinds of meanings in things that I see absolutely nothing but the immediate surface.

I think In a practical sense it is "good enough" if "enough" people care to look at it a second time.

Keep it simple.

i think the best kind of art is the type that makes one cry. whether it be for sadness/hatred or happiness/love.
