Surely such a thing is possible. The question is, what sort of utopian are you?
I believe Utopia to be of only one possibility, namely the one less of war, less of crime, less of immorality, less of insanity, perfect really, at least as good as it gets when it's human. Therefore, I'm a believer in Earthly Heaven and Divine Heaven, God's "stomach". In Phil. of Politics I find Jürgen Habermas to be a strikingly fine example of a philosopher.

BTW, is it a position in Philosophy of Religion to be a Deist? You may check me off as a Deist! Edit: Let me correct this to Scientific Deist. You may have seen it coming. I don't put to much into the terms of "immanent" or "transcendent". From Wikipedia, I now know this is a valid position in Philosophy of Religion. I'm though very relaxed to it. I think it may be possible to get to know God, to perceive God, to conceptualise God correctly by the mind, and I think it's possible to know the extent of God, God's nature, in this universe. This seems to rule out the conventional "immanent" and "transcendent". Like I care... raised eyebrow In thinking about it further, hmmm..., Scientific Thedeist... ach! It may sound rather tedious... wink

A while back, I've come upon a striking description by I. Kant in his Critique of Judgment so since then I've been a Kantian in the field of Philosophy of Aesthetics.

I have read very little of Phil. of Pol. I've heard you can be Liberal, Socialist, Communist, Conservative, and Fascist among many(?). I tend to equate Philosophy of Politics with Philosophy of Religion and I may look down on them both! Eh..., confused

nod Excellent observation.

Why would philosophy of politics be similar to philosophy of religion? The two have little in common, except that both investigate the structures behind some categoricial determinations of man kind. One deals with the relation to the divine, the other with decision making among groups. Seem reasonable occupations to think about, no?

anti-ism-ist, mystic, idiot.

I take a philosophical 'position' to be a way of thinking about things. Most of them I can think with to some extent; some seem more comfortable, or fruitful than others. None is my life.

When I ask of people's positions, I don't imply they are dogmatists. I believe most people on PF are open to change if they meet good arguments.

Unenlightend,is it possible for "anti-ismism" to qualify as an "-ism"? Maybe a case for "scapegoatism"? confused

I can't think therefore; I'm not? rolling eyes

I am not one to attribute that which I cannot understand immediately to be god(s)-perhaps I will never understand, but god(s) are not defined by my lack of understanding-this is the foundation of dogmas, the pressing of connotative values into the realm of dennotative meaning. - MOS

I think philosophy of politics is probably one of the few brances of philosophy that are actually applied and mnfluential. Take neo liberalism, or today's new libertarian paternalism. No, I think you are wrong. About philosophy of religion as well. Understanding philosophy will force you tounderstand its connection with religion. They were bed partners for a long time. Furthermore, religion might be a fundamental structure we have to give account of our being in the world.
