Propositions are declarative statements that have a truth-value. An imperative statement such as "go do your homework" doesn't have a truth-value. That's why we should bother. It makes our language more precise. I'm not sure what your point was, however.

I have a dislike for philosophical inventions. Go ahead and use propositions if you like. I will still talk of statements, and in the main I will mean declaratives. It's a side issue, but one that was worth marking, since it may come up again.

For me, all I know is there's these phenomenal experiences being experienced in the present, that's it. We can categorize and name these experiences, but anything beyond that is metaphysics.

Love this sort of stuff. Where I see a cat, Kkiiji "has a phenomenal experience in the present that can be categorized and named as a cat, but anything beyond that is metaphysics..." grin

Doubtless, Kkiiji used to see cats, but then he went and read some philosophy...disapproval

Philosophy messes with your mind. Wittgenstein can help you to see cats again.

XD I've actually never read any phenomenology, I just borrowed the terms to describe personal observations. I still see cats man, but I can no longer assume that they exist in some type of external world in absolute space/time possessing distinct properties such as colors.

Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says "But Doctor...
I am Pagliacci."

Good joke, everybody laugh.

Banno, could your explanation have anything to do with honesty?

The word is of good Germanic origin, meaning in good faith; same as troth, truce, and a few other words.

To say it is true is to say you can trust me on this...

From dictonary.com:

Axiom:

1. a self-evident truth that requires no proof.
2. a universally accepted principle or rule.
3. Logic, Mathematics. a proposition that is assumed without proof for the sake of studying the consequences that follow from it.

Mmm... Cats... grin

Well... If I pull arguments from things already made. I'd argue Wittgenstein X The Big Fact; as my primary system. ([A x B] -> C)

If we were to make another thread, The most logical aspect would be to run through a word that is a plurality for extrapulation.

But that wasn't a problem for you, once. What turned you into an insecure homunculus, afraid to assert the independent existence of cats?

I'm not "afraid" to assert it, I simply find it to be outdated metaphysics. This idea of independent existences has no basis except our natural inclination, and contemplation about what it means for a cat to exist independently in an absolute universe of absolute objects will reveal the uncertainty.

It only takes three steps really: color, absolute space/time, and fundamentally deterministic relationships. None of these really exist to the fullest extent.

Nuh. Can't follow this either. I must be having a "thick" day. That would also explain why I am being so mean to Kkiiji.

There are two assumptions in the argument; neither is taken as axiomatic, I think. Can you spell out your objection, as for a three-year-old?

I agree. None of these exist. But nothing in that leads to the conclusion that cats don't exist. And cats, as any owner will tell you, are quite independent.

Lol. grin

There's the kitty! Go get it!

Ya... but not right now... not quite enough time left at work to type it up.
