Don't know why I posted this topic. Just felt like it. So, This statement is false. Your job is to prove why or why not. An obvious paradox from the beginning, but I just want to see if anyone can come up with a logical explanation for the statement. I honestly have no idea. This is just for fun.

"This statement is false" is not a statement, since it is not either true or false. i.e. if it was a statement then if it is true, then its false, but if it is false then it is true, so if it was a statement, it would be both true and false, which is absurd.

Therefore, a non-statement can be stated, which is absurd; therefore:

" "This statement is false" is not a statement, since it is not either true or false. i.e. if it was a statement then if it is true, then its false, but if it is false then it is true, so if it was a statement, it would be both true and false, which is absurd." is not a statement, since it is not either true or false. i.e. if it was a statement then if it is true, then its false, but if it is false then it is true, so if it was a statement, it would be both true and false, which is absurd.

Etc.

"This statement is false" has no actual reference, and so cannot be qualified according to some fact or lack-of a fact, and so is neither true nor false. It is nonsensical. It lacks meaning. It is meaningful words arranged into a meaningless sentence.

In a syllogism....

Premise A
This statement is false

Premise B
This statement is not true

Conclusion
This statement, alone, is without probative value.

"This statement is false." Creates a specific, relative frame of reference. Within the statements intrinsic frame, outside systems need not be applied (that is to say, logic) therefore statements withn the system may be recognised at face value i.e. the statement is false.
From the wider perspective of the reader's systems, the statement is false because it does not identify with any of his previous observations or conclusions. Therefore, because that is what the statement says, it is true.

request that this post be moved to philosophy of logic or language.

In any case, what's to keep me from accepting that this statement contains both a true truth-value and a false truth-value?
