Subject: Suicide rate highest among atheists
Suicide rate is highest among atheist and lowest among religious believers. I wonder what is the cause of this significant difference? .
  1. Religious believers feel a greater reason to live.
  2. Religious believers are more afraid of death, e.g., going to Hell.
  3. Atheist tend to be more liberal when it comes to suicide.
  4. Atheist are more likely to suffer from severe depression and a feeling an angst.
  5. All of the above,
  6. Other reasons.

Do you have a cite for the proposition that suicide rate is highest among atheists?

There's a list of causes given in your source: ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cg...ntent/abstract/161/12/2303 Try filling in your questionnaire yourself.

The religious don't have to look around and see that the vast majority of the world is delusional.

Interestingly enough religious people are more likely to commit homicide or any other crime for that matter, so I doubt the fear of going to hell makes a huge difference. Also, as the article points out the more secular countries are more likely to accept suicide both socially and legally.

If I had to speculate, I'd say that the reason that suicide is higher among atheists than theists is because theists tend to follow dogmatically enforced prohibitions on suicide, whereas atheists no longer have any binding dogma to prohibit them to commit suicide. (So, to pick one of your possible answers, I suppose my answer is a modification of 1.)

I think an important reason is that atheists feel like they're responsible for their miserable situation, which makes them feel bad and suicidal. OTOH religious people shift the burden of responsibility to some "higher power" and feel better about themselves, since they're merely at the mercy of a god's will and they therefore accept their miserable situation as inevitable (often hoping they will get compensated in the afterlife).

For the same reason, it's easier for religious people to do bad things. They just don't feel like they have as much responsibility for their actions.

Well I somewhat feel that atheism comes from suicidal than suicidal coming from atheism...
