Hello, I am not sure if this is the correct thread for this post. I was wondering if anyone has read Simone De Beauvior's 'The Woman in Love' from her book 'The Second Sex' ? I read it and found it quite interesting how Beauvior describes and discusses Love in relation to sexual differences. For example - for woman, Love is a total devotion to man. However, men have a less desire for this.

What are your views on this piece? Do you believe that Love is different in relation to gender due to biological differences or social construct?

Oh, this is indeed the correct thread. But I don't think love - for woman - is total devotion to man. Cleopatra, for instance, had her men twirled around her finger. In modern times, farangs (ugly white males) are being ripped off by young women in Thailand.

You need to travel, Abi, instead of reading tall stories. The real world is all there outside your head. grin

I think, male-love and female-love between male and female are different, at least because of different values, different social roles and different levels of testosterone. Of course there are many kinds of 'love' and if you would ask me what it is I could not answer you but I can see they are different.

"Total devotion" changes with the many different ideas of what devotion actually is. There are many men that are fully devoted to their wives but to a man that devotion consists of being faithful and paying the bills not necesarily cleaning and raising kids. It all depends on cultural, religious and upbringing differences. But to love someone is to be devoted and it does go both ways.
