Simone De Beauvoir is the only one I can think of.

"Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man." Moses (Numbers 31:17-18)

"Do not harm little children" - Satanic Bible. Rule no.9

"And the prize is: Eternal heavenly bliss. Or a peanut. Your choice."

My hair is long enough for me to be a woman, that might help.

This forum has under 5 active female members as far as I can tell.

Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says "But Doctor...
I am Pagliacci."

Good joke, everybody laugh.

"Women have more important things to do"

Curious. We all get eaten by various stuff at one point or another. But I never really thought these things are gender determined.

Anyhow... present!

I need to get acquainted with sanity.

Rantings, rantings and more rantings. Seriously.

I wonder how many transgendered philosophers there are per male/female philosophers?

Ayn Rand, George Eliot, Judith Butler... umm... that's all I got.

Actually, this is an interesting question. Perhaps Philosophy is a silly topic for most females. There may be a real research topic here. Maybe there is an inherit difference in male and female brains that allow men to ponder questions that arise due to the inadequacy of language to describe certain topics. Perhaps most females already have an inherent answers to these questions and allow men to ponder them. Mainly to occupy our time so the we have something on our minds besides sex. grin

Women were denied the opportunity to pursue the same fields as men for most of human history, and in most cultures. They just recently acquired a significant amount of equality, and autonomy, and in some of the world -- they have a hell of a lot of catching up to do. In the example of the three female philosophers I gave, one of them even uses a male pen name in order to be taken seriously.

Hard to overlook such obstacles toward equaling the male sex in philosophical tradition.

Um, for me, no, and I mean that as a compliment.

I really thought it would be more than that. It seems it's significantly less than the proportion of female philosophy majors, which according to Women in Academics is about 1:2 in the US.

Come to Thailand. It's about 1:1:1. Seriously though, I've taught in Universities over here and in the humanities it seems there are as many 'ladyboys' as straight men. It's quite striking.
