It seems pretty tough to find totally impartial and concise information on the Koran, the Hadiths, Islamic traditions and Islamic history on the net. Any defintiely reliable sources which aren't either focussed on condemning Islam or promoting it? I feel I should get to know more about it, seeing as its still Ramadan, but don't feel quite ready to tackle the heady task of reading the Koran in full. Any work by western or eastern writers is appreciated; thanks in advance.

You should read the Qur'an. That is the foundation, no?

Mmm, but I feel the desire to read a good introduction to it as it's pretty tough going, from what I've seen. I'll get round to it, just wanna do some prelimenary reading first, as I'm in the middle of a big ol' Zizek book.
