First make sure there is some philosophical content. If there is none, it will be deleted (e.g. introductory threads, seemingly pointless stories, quotations, etc.) If there is some please make sure you the check the other available fora to see where it might better belong.

Do not post philosophical matters relating to religion in this forum.

They go in the philosophy of religion forum. People seem to have a startling hard time understanding that.

Do not post factual questions on this forum.

Please check that your thread is not a factual question, as such threads belong on the 'Intro / Factual Questions' subforum, not here on the main forum.

A factual question is a question in which you are asking not for arguments but for facts. If you're asking what philosophers are best known in field x, that's a factual question. If you're asking people for suggestions of what books you should read to find out more about x, that's a factual question. If you're trying to find out what philosopher said x, that's a factual question.

Examples:
"Do you live your philosophy?"
"how did you get into philosophy ?"
"popular philosophers"
"Who do you think is the best philosopher?"

Click here to go to the factual questions forum, to post your factual questions.

Title your threads descriptively.

Do not choose a subject line like "Just a thought." or "new here" or "here's what I think" or "Not sure where to post it." If you choose to inconvinience everyone with such deceptive titles that give no clue to anyone of what they're going to see if they click, your thread is subject to the whims of the annoyed moderator who has to edit it.
