Subject: Question on Sartre

hello, long time listener first time poster here. I have a question regarding Jean-Paul Sartre's "Being and Nothingness". Sartre says that we are a 'negation of our own being.' I was wondering if someone could help me see this statement a little clearer. I already understand Sartre's being-in-itself and being-for-itself as objective and subjective being, respectively. I also think I understand that being is coprimordial with nothingness. But I cannot seem to fully grasp Sartre's notion of the self.

any response would surely be appreciated. thank you.

Maybe this will help you, Sartre once has said that by smoking and drinking he does not destroy his body but he destroyes the world.

Sartre's notion of self? Well, check out solipsism. I exist, because I exist the world exists, without me nothing exists, my existence hurts me, so I by destroying my body I destroy the world.

Hope it helps a litle

As in the previous thread I will say, you feel existentialism, you don't just read it. It will be hard to fully understand it if you haven't felt left alone and in pain.

Kind regards
