Hello. This thread is not an argument but still a philosophical topic. I study pre-Socratic philosopher (I must do). My teacher said that the origin of everything must be infinite. It can’t be limited because if it has boundary then universe must corrupt and some kind of disappear for now. I can’t understand so I ask her directly (break time).

“Why the origin has to be infinite?”
“Because if it has limitation then our world can’t exist, our world still exist therefore the origin a.k.a. To Apeiron or God or whatever it is must have no limitation.”
“But it possible that it has limitation but its limitation is very high so the world is not corrupt, for now.”
“No, it is not. You think as possibility but our subject, philosophy is all about logic.”
“Logic? Speaking of which, why does the existential of origin, whatever it is, relate to the end of everything. I mean when I write a book, I create a book. Ten years after that, I die. This doesn’t make my book can’t be existed anymore.”
“You are talking about science, observe, not logic.”
(What?) “I can’t understand.”
“If there are no you anymore, the book will corrupt slowly and loose ‘bookish’ it will be only a trash. You must maintain it to make it stable as book.”
“With all due respect, I read republic of Plato which wrote like thousands years ago. It is not necessary that a writer must be the one to maintain a book. The origin maybe creates something to maintain everything. And maybe, just maybe, our world is in corrupt slowly state.”
“You don’t understand basic of logic.”
(What???) “Excuse me, is the origin can’t be limited because its definition?”
“No.”
“Then why?”
“Logic”
And the end of the break.

Can someone please open my cloudy dim eyes as crystal clear as summer sky?
P.S. Sorry for Grammar

Is this the same teacher who thinks you have to learn foreign languages to appreciate foreign philosophy?

She sounds horrible. Is she always like that? How did you feel after this conversation? Do you enjoy her classes?

As for the philosophy, it's clear that she doesn't understand it herself. If she did, she would have explained it to you instead of just insulting you.

EDIT: Which pre-socratic are you studying?

What's the point of your debate?

Yea, though I walk through the vally of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.

To bert1.
No. she isn't.

Is she always like this? I don't know. My advisor says she is very good teacher when it comes to Plato and Aristotle and someone I can’t remember (I don't really believe it. But I’ve never learnt that subject from her, maybe she’s good at that however, I won’t risk to take her class.)

I feel bad, honestly. Her style make me feel … I don’t know. She usually ask an open end question but need a precise answer. For the example, “Why logic is important?” I answer this “To try to know the truth.” She says “Wrong. To make decision.”

I study Thales, Anaximander, Heracletus and Parminedes. This class is “the must” I don’t know how to put it. My university force any major-philosophy to study it.

To JamesBrenton.
The point of my debate? There is no debate. At that very moment, all I want is reason behind this claim. To ask to all of you is for make me clear with this claim.

Something new my friends, she grades me good and says I am very enthusiasm guy. But I have a very big problem about logic. I can't argue what I think. This is her commentary.

Could you guide me a mean to improve my way of thinking(reasoning)? Whether she is right or wrong, I want to improve my skill.
