For sure. I have friends at Reading too, I wonder if you might know them? I think they all do sociology, if that helps? Also, I note from the biography from your comic website that you have been to Amazingstoke! Liquid I presume? wink

I go to Durham university but I actually live not far from Reading, roughly near a town called Newbury (a.k.a Poobury, or Brown Town).

I do two modules in sociology, so it's possible. I used to go to college in Amazingstoke. It was relatively amazing. I know Newbury. I haven't found much reason to go there, but I see it on signs a lot.

I can just imagine the looks I might get when I walk into a cafe and ask some guy "hey, are you not quite there?".

I wish I could say that it happens more often than you'd think, but it really doesn't.

That must make it difficult to get to lectures on time.

Oh btw if you live in durham what do you pay in rent - thinking of buying a flat near the uni and renting it out?

Heh. I actually might have a place to stay in edmonton during the festival; a friend of mine who might still be up there at that time. I'll contact him and see. He loves filming well... everything. grin

There are lots of people here I'd like to meet - no point in name dropping, though. Even still, I spend most of my time here in Kansas City, though I frequently travel to California. I normally hit up the south end of San Diego first then shoot north to LA and spend most of my time there in between Long Beach, Wilmington and Englewood. Also, every so often I like to stop in Denver for a few days and then Vegas before I head to California.

I'm a social person and I like meeting new people; people are the bane of my existence: I simply love 'em. Actually, I have a trip to SoCal planned for mid June to mid-July if anyone is interested. In fact, I think a group meeting of all who are willing and are in some pre-coordinated area/ time would be great fun.

Respectfully,

Ecce.

The Optimist: I do believe that it was a life-changing experience. From this point on, every chicken sandwich I eat will be compared to that one and I know they'll all fall short...What a terrible world. Hyena: Or you can say that with the rarity of such a chicken sandwich, all the low quality sandwiches you are going to eat from then onwards would always remind you of how lucky you are for being one of the few who have been able to taste such an extraordinary sandwich.

Luckily though, flights from Newcastle cost very little. wink

I will be paying very little next year. Less than £50 a week, all-inclusive and wire-less internet will be practically nothing between four of us. We're not exactly in the middle of town but it's not much more than a 10/15 minute walk to my lectures/department; although, it will probably take me about 30 minutes to get to my college, which I might need to go to on occasion. But then, I'm probably going to get a bike (or a car, assuming I make as much money this summer as I intend to!). If you want to get somewhere near the uni (what that means I'm not quite sure since Durham uni is all over the place) then it will probably cost over £80 a week, probably not all-inclusive, and it'll be a box.

There are some really, really nice flats/apartments around the centre but I can't imagine how much those cost. I dream of having one in my final year...

For the winner there was a big three-legged cauldron to stand over a fire - it was worth a dozen oxen by the Greek's reckoning - and for the loser he brought forward a woman thoroughly trained in domestic work whom they valued at four oxen.

There are quite a number of people living in Toronto.

So, Sepiraph? Interested in meeting any of them? grin

Apparently, there are people who would be in the same location with one or two others at some time. I see that a big gathering isn't actually very feasible since I am assuming that not all would be willing to travel (and that includes me. grin). I suppose then that people could meet in two's and more depending on the the number of people close enough for you to kidnap. grin

It is really a shame though that I am too far. Perhaps Mars Man is the closest to me, and I wouldn't be willing to travel even that far either. Heh. grin

The thing is though, most of the people in this list are inactive members, with the exception being me, dimka, AKG. Also as you already know, I'm pretty busy studying for an exam while having a few weddings to attend. I might try to organize something in Toronto after though after I'm less busy, and if it is only a few people it would probably be easy to organize.

I'm down here in Georgia and I'm not sure how my parents would feel about me meeting up with someone I've communicated with over the internet. Though I am 16, I haven't acquired my liscense yet, so I couldn't meet you anyway.

Meet-ups scare me a little. shocked Have never been to one yet, but I am curious about it. I would possibly go to one, if it didn't require I go too far. It might be interesting to relate the 'in the flesh' version of people with their cyber-selves. Having invested a lot of time with people online, it may be worthwhile to learn how much perception can change.

And Paul, next time we plan a meet-up, you had better show! I was wandering around for hours in the dark all alone that last time. raised eyebrow

Sorry, but perhaps if you'd been more specific about the location than "Wyoming" I'd have been able to find the spot. I was too tired to search around much after the 14 hour drive.

Your thread's topic is "Let's Meet Up." Well, if you're not going to be a part of the meeting... you get my point? Anyways, I don't want to criticize you, I'm just wondering why you're so reluctant to follow your own idea. What do you mean by “Mars Man is the closest to me, and I wouldn't be willing to travel even that far either.” How far can you be from everyone, really? And, how do you know where everyone is? Who knows, maybe we’re neighbors. You’re not in jail, are you? smiling face

P.S. What’s an OP? confused I’m new here. smiling face

See, it's not even my idea. I am just playing the role of the ultimate coordinator. Heh. How do I know? Paul told me. I am from the Philippines. Nobody is within the cities near mine. Nobody's even in the same country!

I'm not reluctant. It's just not practical. If I have been near anyone else in the forum, I would have been more than willing to go.

Anyway, I think I have said all of this before.

So...Welcome? OP stands for Opening Post. wink

Well as the thread creator the least you could do to support the thread is move to the more convenient side of the planet. Your being so stubbornly immobile sets a bad example which dooms the idea. And don't give me any "I'm too poor!" story -- you can learn to build a raft and sail it across the pacific if you try.

I'm not averse to hanging out with fellow PF members - in fact, I think it'd be kinda cool. So if there are any Angelenos who post here on at least a semi-regular basis [I'd rather meet posters whom I'm at least somewhat familiar with], or if any of you plan on visiting LA some time in the future, please feel free to contact me if you'd be interested in meeting.

I live and work in the Pasadena area, so it's a nice, central location within the greater LA metropolis - not too far from any of the major airports, tourist attractions, etc., etc. Moreover, it has a relatively vibrant nightlife [without the snobbishness of, say, Hollywood or West LA], some decent museums and other cultural landmarks, plenty of hiking trails within minutes of downtown, and a number of other positive characteristics.

I actually work at a bar, so this would be a great place to meet up initially. I could get you drunk and we could talk philosophy, or, even better, we could talk crap about other PF members. sticking out tongue

I doubt it'll ever come to fruition, but I'm sincere about it nonetheless.

It seems I'm near the same neck of the woods as you, at least until you move to Washington.

I'm, for the most, part auto-didactic in philosophy as you can probably tell by the irrationalities I toss around here without the proper philosophical vocabulary.
But, I'm in Chicago if anyone's interested in having a beer. It's essentially the geographical center of the universe (of the far west).
