Generation of the images simply isn't worth the development time for me when I've never had a paying customer ask for it.

Unfortunately, rendering a good deal of symbols and expressions is still fairly unreliable amongst browsers/fonts/operatingsystems. :-/

I find these seems generally usable/supported:
http://www.bigbaer.com/sidebars/entities/
http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/HTML/guide/entities.html

These pages offer some good details and standards (some only proposed at this point):
http://www.unicode.org/charts/symbols.html

Some comments here as well:
http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/math/#chars

Hopefully, using www as a general medium for representing all kinds of expressions, will be more standardized (and supported) within the next few years.
In waiting for this to crystalize, such metasites as wikipedia, has now implemented full LaTeX integration (by generating, and inserting, small images on-the-fly).

Let me just try what characters gets rendered in what way:

So since the LaTeX is apparently not actually working, shouldn't this thread be taken down, or at least edited so you don't keep getting people like me asking how to work it?
