I've recently been interested in the philosophy of mind, consciousness and debate between dualism and physicalism. However all I have read are snippets of wikipedia articles and bits and bobs by people like Daniel Dennet and John Searle on the Internet.

Can anyone recommend a good book which introduces the main concepts of philosophy of mind? I've never studied philosophy before so i'm looking for something readable and easy to understand.

Mind. By John Searle. It's a great historical rundown of the problems at hand.

Or Consciousness: a very short introduction by Susan Blackmore

Thanks for the reply
I just looked at my uni library and found a book by Searle called .. 'Mind, language and society : philosophy in the real world'. Is this the book you were talking about?

that's a good one too, but it's not the same one. The one I mentioned is called: Mind: a brief introduction

Try Kim's Philosophy of Mind and Andy Clark's Mindware: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Cognitive Science. Read both because they cover different material.
