I'm inspired in general over people who overcome the odds to accomplish their goals, including the disabled (e.g. that blind fellow who climbed Mt. Everest). If that's offensive to some people, that's unfortunate.

The "white", heterosexual, male etc. communities have never experienced oppression as such, and can therefore take no pride in fighting against oppression. When Blacks in America are equal to "whites" in every respect, I doubt anyone will bother with black pride.

Including athletic respects? Just curious.

I will have to respond to your internal groan externally. What's the problem?

I think disabled people should stop complaining about things related to their disabilities. It totally proves the ableist position that disabilities are inherently bad (hense their names). :O

I think it's a myth that white males don't know what oppression is first hand.. although I may not understand what you mean by as such. The American Revolution was instigated by white males (I don't know what percentage were heterosexual) who experienced oppression. The subsequent influx of Irish, Italian, Jewish, and other white males insured that the experience of oppression would persist. There was a fairly brutal struggle between labor and big business in the North and the phenomenon of "share-cropping" in the South, which was a type of slavery.

But I think the black pride thing is kind of retro at this point... where I live, anyway. Rich blacks and white are pretty integrated. Poor blacks and whites... same thing. Rich and poor.. not so much.

Out of interest, how did you or anyone else know they were taking a picture for the, er, voyeuristic (I suppose) purpose you suggest? Did they say "Wow, look, someone in a wheelchair who's allowed outside!", or something?

Just curious ...

I understood what you said. I am puzzled by the notion of inspiration... do you want to be a blind person climbing a mountain? Why?
