How does guest posting work?

I read a Peter Singer article in the NY Times and it occured to me that it would be interesting to have him as a guest poster. I thought that we might pick a book of his as suggested reading and then invite him on shortly after we were done, that way people would be familiar with his work.

Is there anyone that solicits guest posters?

ying was good enough to solicit Chalmers, and he's also been speaking to some others. However, I haven't heard any news for awhile. (He did say something about "I'm hoping this can become a team effort since I obviously can't do this by myself," poor guy.)

I did ask him too but he didn't respond (or maybe my message didn't get through due to crappy connection). There we're a couple who agreed to participate. I think Searle agreed (got his email address via wiki). I'm still wondering if they are dropping by anytime soon.

I think invitations should come from a moderator or an administrator and be part of a coordinated effort. But nominations are welcome from anyone, as well as any ideas regarding the process as a whole. Some sort of prior reading suggestion is a good idea, though some philosophers have such broad interests that it can be difficult to generate any sort of representative list that is also feasible to read. As for the work load, it might be best if ying acts as the coordinator, and the rest of us help him out with the related tasks.

He already contacted a whole lot of people, and a lot of them turned him down sadly.

Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says "But Doctor...
I am Pagliacci."

Good joke, everybody laugh.

Frankly, I was amazed that Chalmers accepted. But I'm sure we can get others.

Yeah, getting someone with the stature of Chalmers to come and talk to a bunch of good willing amateurs is really ana achievement. I know how hard it is to mobilise people even if it concerns an audience of all academics. I didn't see Ying for awhile.
