Perseus,

He's buckling to pressure from all the media hype. He is a politician like all the others, and will bend to the will of the people..even if he thinks it's utter bullshit.

But I have a real problem with both major parties, (Libs and ALP) because on the one hand, the incumbent party (LIBS) wants to also embrace Nuclear power. However, the Labor party (ALP) opposition wants to ban nuclear power stations,(which is good) but perversely, wants to turn my desert state of South Australia into one of the worlds largest dumping grounds for nuclear waste material.

And this is land that mostly belongs to native Aborigines, who (not suprisingly) want to say no, but are unable to fight such dumps, because while they (the Pitinjinjarra peoples) own the top 2 meters of soil, the Federal government controls the mining rights under it... All this is even more ironic, when one considers, that the ALP always talk up their alleged 'Reconciliation' credentials with the first peoples of this land..rolling eyes

And the Greens...God forbid, they're nutz.

They want to close all coal related industries ( mining, powerstations) overnight, thus throwing millions of Australians out of work. On top of that, they want to rip up all the coal export deals that Australia has signed with China, Japan, India, the USA etc.

Can you imagine the tens of billions of dollars in penalties the Australian people would have to pay out to these countries, for having defaulted on the coal exporting agreements?

Its enought to make me want to vote...informal...disapproval

1 month 3 weeks & 8 1/2 pages later...No Resolution.

Perhaps there is something to be said that one fact. Perhaps there is or isn't a world danger ahead. If the Pro-Earther's are right, then we are killing ourselves. If the Pro-Earthlings are right, then we're not destroying the Earth & its creatures.

Since most of the Pro-Earthlings are also *Pro-Christies, I shall use their favorite argument for the side of the Pro-Earthers.

What if you're wrong?

I don't follow greenmagi, is there not a religious anti environmental bias in the US? Everywhere else it doesn't seem to be a prominent issue for the church.

I never pay too much attention to what most thespians are proclaiming. There are a few exceptions, but generally Hollywood (and every facsimile of it) are little more than Plato’s Cave-Shadow worshipers. Fools, corrupted.

I haven't looked over this thread to find if anyone has mentioned this, but I would like to clear up a common misconception about global warming. It stems from the name of the problem. What we are facing is not necessarily a period of strong warming; in fact, there might only be a slight increase in temperature. What we are truly experiencing is global energizing. More heat energy is being trapped in our atmosphere, but the thing about our planet, is that heat energy doesn't necessarily stay as heat. It is converted into potential and kinetic energy too, which result is far more, and far stronger weather conditions, which is why we are seeing record numbers of tornados, hurricanes, floods, thunderstorms and the like.

Don't take the red pill.
