It's obvious God doesn't love us. Look at all the ugly people he created--not to mention all the other defects.

Actually I see very few 'naturally' ugly people. Usually ugliness is a result of internal strife it seems. There is a certain ugly disposition about some people that makes them physically unattractive and it is their attitude that does it, in my view.

He/they might hardly know you...

It's like asking if you have known your bacteria cells in your blood... if he/she/they exist, your probably worthless alone. So on the question, probably not, you don't 'love' what you don't know.

What you are, you are by accident of birth; what I am, I am by myself. There are and will be a thousand princes; there is only one Beethoven. - Ludwig van Beethoven

I just can't see God winning on this point. If he loves us enough to give us free will (believe what you will about free will in the real world) then love automatically becomes subjective. As we breed more and more people will vary and some will be loved, others will not for whatever reasons. So if free will was the gift of love then all he has done is make humans different and people unworthy of human love. I guess you would just have to love free will.

And I also presume that prolonging of life is not an aim of God. I remember one philosopher (Kierkegaard?) saying how humans had this arrogant hold on life which immediately made life worse. I can't fully agree with this but I see no reason why any creature wouldn't be allowed to act as it chooses. I know we have evolved to basically survive but there is no suggestion that that is what God would want - I guess that would involve just living life and stop worrying and wasting precious time thinking about the end.

Hi,

You love what you lack? I think this is a sweeping generlization that is probably more often false then true. At its trivial level I lack a gaping chest wound, I certainly don't love it. I lack money to pay off my mortgage, I certainly want it, but I don't love it. In the realm of human emotions I lack a sadistic woman with whips and chains and a shrew like tongue, again I have no great desire let alone love for one.

In life I suspect and I think there's been research done to show it, that we most often go for people who are similar to us, who compliment us. Those are the people we love.

To move this argument to the transcendant, if we are to believe in the old testament, God created us in his own image.

Not sure where this leaves your initial argument, but we agree on one thing, God does not lack us.

Cheers.

It has been said that “God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions. “

And I would disagree that what you lack is what you love, heck you can lack the whole universe, it does not mean you love it. I believe love is found in the desire and expectations that one values. That which you value the most, you love the most. And if you value something, you seek it out and desire to have and keep that which you value.

So when in the consideration of, does God Love you? What is God’s desire and expectations of man (that He made) that He values, as compared to what men’s desires and expectations that men value, might be the more accurate question.

If you have a garden do you desire thorns and weeds that choke off the that which is planted to bear the fruit which is desired?

You don’t have to believe something you don’t know is true, whether it be fact or fiction. But if you know it’s true?
