I know there is a subforum for Logic Homework, but was wondering if there should be a general forum in which students may demand that others do their work. It seems some are confused regarding just where this may be done. My suggested heading need not be employed, however.

"Philosophy recovers itself when it ceases to be a device for dealing with the problems of philosophers and becomes a method, cultivated by philosophers, for dealing with the problems of men."--John Dewey

I was very happy today and then something made it even happier

there should be a general forum in which students may demand that others do their work.

I did think a special guideline on how to diguise one's homework as a facinating discussion topic might be useful. I reckon one of the best ways is to separate the philosophers out and ask about them separately. Thus, 'Would Socrates approve of reality TV?' as one thread, and 'Would Decartes win Britian's got Talent?' as another. OPs that start or end with 'discuss' are a bit of a giveaway - change it to 'what do you think, folks?'

What do you think folks?

Personally I am entertained by the threads that are an obvious attempt to have others answer homework questions. I think if there was an actual subforum for the purpose of getting others to do homework, my entertainment would be diminished. If someone is capable of cleverly disguising a homework question then I suppose they could post it anywhere and actually get some meaningful responses. I find the problem is that most homework related questions make no attempt to disguise themselves and for that reason don't garner much discussion.

They should be freely posted, but just as freely dismissed (or used for entertainment value).

I am more interested in questions than answers; dialog than dictation.

As I've said elsewhere: a good topic is a good topic, and a bad topic is a bad topic, regardless of whether it helps anyone with an assignment. I don't know the original reason for giving logic a special dispensation, but it makes sense to me: it is particularly difficult for many people, but many schools require all arts and sciences students to take such a course. And the logic homework subforum gives specific instructions that anyone wishing to ask homework-related questions would be wise to follow: "Please attempt to solve the problem and show where you're lost."

That said, new threads asking for homework help will not be deleted. Instead, I will provide really bad answers that look like really good answers. sticking out tongue

I like the idea of a "do my homework" forum where all the regulars intentionally post wrong answers to amuse readers and professors. The demanders are typically newbies, and probably wouldn't read the answer before turning it in, so they wouldn't notice.

I specially find homework threads annoying. And despite my fellow admin and mods' stand on the matter, I am usually inclined to delete substance-less homework threads.

I have nothing against homework threads with sincere attempt and effort by the poster to provide his/ her insights about the matter and is only sincerely asking for thoughts that would enable him/ her to see the subject in different angles.

I am as annoyed even when it is posted in Intro.

I need to get acquainted with sanity.

Rantings, rantings and more rantings. Seriously.

I agree with the "post wrong answers" idea. It'll teach them not to ask strangers for help.

Plus, I'm just mean like that.

I am awesome.
