Subject: Denotation vs Connotation
The annoying student is back again.

I think I have this right, but I want your take. The job is to differentiate between symbol and sign on the basis of denotation and connotation.

Am I right in that signs use denotation while symbols used connotation? From what I gather, signs are used as an arbitrary mark or indication of something, while symbols use conceived ideas of something. Is that right? And am I using my terms correctly?
