I want to discourage possible worlds for the following reason, take the following dialogue:

A: It is necessary if it exists in all possible worlds.
B: What exists in a possible world?
A: I don't know.
B: How about contradictions do they exist in a possible world?
A: No.
B: Does anything besides contradictions exist in a possible world?
A: Yes.
B: Then the definition of necessary is "x is necessary if the contrary is a contradiction."

In other words, possible worlds do not inform us of anything. Contradictions inform us of things.

I think I bought my copy (ebook) from Google books, a couple of years ago.

If you google

google books possible worlds haldane

you should be able to get a Google Books page from where you can - maybe by following a few extra links - buy it.

It is a wonderful essay collection, full of stimulating ideas and tidbits of information (horses splash; we feel out of breath when we hold our breath not because of insufficient oxygen but because of too much carbon dioxide). He is a very original thinker. His collection of ideas don't fit any standard template or ism, and it is hard to predict what he will think on any given issue.

I read a few pages of Anti-Oedipus; the style is what triggered me into reading Deleuze. I bought Difference and Repetition, but I don't believe I'll be able to finish that book for at least a year as I'm currently reading:

Being and Time by Heidegger

War and Peace by Tolstoy (for 'light' reading)

Future philosophy reads:

Difference and Repetition by Deleuze

The Visible and the Invisible by Maurice Merleau-Ponty

Being and Nothingness by Sartre
