Hello, people of Philosophy Forums! I'm a new guy here, and this is my first post. This isn't my first time on a forum, though. Before I go any deeper, I need to say, I'm 14 right now, so if any of my theories are a little stupid, I apologize. I picked up Philosophy as a hobby/way of making my life easier a few months ago, when my older brother got interested in things like Buddhism and astral projection. He told me about Buddha's theories, transcendentalism, and stuff like that, so I sort of got sucked into it. People say I don't fit in easily, and I'm glad; that means (to me) that I'm not trying too hard to put on a mask for everyone and parade my empty shell of a self around to staisfy society. I'm going to try my best to avoid the politics section, mostly because I don't know much about it, but also because I guess you could call me a bit of an anarchist. I hope I can be welcomed here, and I look forward to learning from everyone's opinion's. Here's the first theory of mine that I'll show you that goes with the previous sentence: the only place where something can be definitely right or wrong is math.

Oh look, a signature! Let me just put something witty here.

Hi there, welcome. You could be right about the above, but I can't say for definite. Polite and grammatical anarchists of any age are welcome in any of the forums - enjoy. smiling face

Good introduction, and I think there's a lot to be said for your theory. Welcome.

Since the description beckoned new members post here!

Although your age does show through your content, no 14 year old I've ever met has impressed me that much. Thank you for posting and for inviting others to post their introductions. It seems I'm not able to create a new topic? A good thing you did. Thanks again!

This is my introduction.

I'm a long standing internet junkie who's kind of starved for human contact in the realm of philosophical discussion and debate.

It's been almost a decade since school ended for me. No longer concerned with finding a career or doing anything "productive" with my education I've realized that I will inevitably find my place in either a nut house or a think tank, neither of which do I meet the current qualifications for. Best to work towards the lesser of the two evils and put myself through a formal education. Something I've evaded through constant self learning and diligent study.

This is my ideal Friday night. I've already exhausted my interest in three or four topics that I've been researching on my own and boredom is absolute.

From a sociological perspective perhaps it's my narcissism or maybe my withdrawal from human contact. Maybe the narcissism stems from dissatisfaction with human contact as of late. Either way I'm here now.

Raised in a Roman Catholic town in the Catholic school system. Half aboriginal, and half Italian. No doubt anyone who knows Northern Ontario at all is shaking their heads.
My mother was a protestant and I began my studies in mythology and ancient history at a very young age with great support and encouragement. This of course drew me closer to theology. After studying demonology (oh how we stray to the polar opposites of our upbringing!) which lead to Wicca, Earth and Goddess worship, Modern and Spiritual Satanism, Studies of secret societies and conspiracies. All this by the age of fourteen.

Once high school was over physics became more enticing. High school math and structure put a huge damper on creative use of mathematics, it was a Catholic school after all! Monotheism seems to leave no room for creativity or chaos. Soon after I settled into the ways of meditation and discovered Buddhism. This was practiced for years until it could be practiced no more. There was no direction past what was seen and waiting for something to come about became tiresome. Patience was desperately lacking in my youth.

While still holding many of the lessons learned through Buddhist teachings in high regard, the mainstay of my religious study is scientific and objective at best. Hermetics and the Kabbalah are my path as they have always been even unknowingly. Most of what I can take from my experiences traveling world religion bring light to what I know from my hermetic studies. They're well married with science and fact.

Other religions that have highly influenced my thought are Hinduism and my native Ojibway roots. Of course as a Kabbalist I've studied Jewish Mysticism, religious traditions in ancient Egypt and Sumeria.

A personal goal is to understand the universe.
A personal hobby is practical modern application of ancient philosophy.

My outlook on society? Still cave men, they just have guns instead of sticks. I like to think of them as Zombies. Wrote some sci-fi on that topic using Plato's cave as the basis.
Instead of the cave imagery it included those inside the cave and their shadows being zombies who had forgotten what reality is. I applied Plato's ideas in resolving the conflict of characters. This is what I do for fun.

I hope I can contribute and participate in a productive and enlightening manner.
Glad to be here!

Maybe it is only my experience, but I have found very few people who are truly narcissistic, claim that they are, outloud anyway. The idea of your withdrawl from human contact may come from your dissatisfaction with 'your' human contact of late is most likely your answer. In a few words (Great White lyric) "Once bitten, twice shy" might apply.

"Either way I'm here now."

As am I. Welcome~

Thanks for your compliments! I don't get that very often from peers, because they're too afraid of me to really dig any deeper than the sight of my combat boots and shirts with various metal musicians. I only get compliments from teachers normally; they tend to be less biased. About the literacy thing that afew have mentioned, my dream is to be an author and write horror fiction like Lovecraft, but also to write about philosophy, so it's pretty much imperative to have at least some form of mastery of the language I'm going to be using to provide for myself and any wife/kids. About my philosophy, I have a lot of time to think about it and develope it because I don't participate in regular teenage drama, so I'm normally just sitting here, listening to bands like Gorgoroth while I play mindless flash games. I decided to do something a little more productive. I find that I can relate very closely to Laic's post. Really, the only differences are I'm not out of school yet, my blood is half Irish and half Scottish, and my parents never tried to raise me as any real sort of Christian. They were always too busy to take my brother and I to churches, so they occasionally read us a few passages from the bible. Thanks for welcoming me, everyone.

Oh look, a signature! Let me just put something witty here.

No wonder, you're a Lovecraft fan! I don't read much fiction these days but I do absolutely adore Lovecraft. He puts us in situations doesn't he?

Keep thinking. And never stop wearing those combat boots. I was the only Goth/Metalhead in my school when I was 14 too.

The only thing that's changed since then has been my taste for better quality and not just going for anything dark and doomy. You either grow up into it or grow out of it.
