I third the good luck thing. It's weird. I believed in Santa Claud, but could never believe my mom when she told me that the poop on the car was good luck. I just assumed that my dad was too lazy to clean it off.

From the reasoning of the "good luck" meaning, I deduce that being crapped by an elephant guarantees a life-long prosperity and success on any enterprise one embarks into. I personally choose the unsuccessful path.

I would imagine that it means that the required amount of time has passed for the birds last meal to have moved throught its digestive system.

augur

1 : an official diviner of ancient Rome
2 : one held to foretell events by omens

etymology: "augur Look up augur at Dictionary.com
c.1374 (implied in augury), from L. augur, a religious official in ancient Rome who foretold events by interpreting omens, perhaps originally meaning "an increase in crops enacted in ritual," in which case it probably is from Old L. *augos (gen. *augeris) "increase," and is related to augere "increase" (see augment). The more popular theory is that it is from L. avis "bird," since flights, singing, and feeding of birds or entrails from bird sacrifices were an important part of divination (cf. auspicious). The second element would be from garrire "to talk." The verb is 1549, from the noun."

The bird shits. It is going to rain. Big crops. Lots of cash flow. Happy wife. Contented Children.
