I wanted to ask you two questions: are there any chess players among you?
And if so, do you think chess has or can have any philosophical value / considerations?
I am thinking about (a rather obscure of coursesmiling face ) theory about the philosophy of chess.

It's a nice little essay on the philosophy of chess.

To be universally interesting, one must be universally interested.

Yep. I play (or played) chess, quite a bit - I haven't played for quite a while though. smiling face
It is a true game of strategy.

I believe it could be used as a good analogy in certain philosophies. I am not sure of it having a specific philosophy of its own though.

As I posted in my own introduction thread (sure you can find it) - I'm a chess player. I haven't played in about a year so I'd probably be pretty rusty but if anyone wants I'm always up for a game.

I've thought deeply about chess... I wouldn't say there's any real de facto 'philosophy of chess' or any real extropolation - but it is a good metaphor for alot of things.

Make your own rules.

If anybody feels like playing a game on chess.net (www.chess.net) feel free. It is a paysite, but you can log in for free as a guest. My handle is 'karnoldussen'.

It is in fact my sirname, but with an added 'k'. I feel that every good chessplayers names begin with K. Kramnik, Kamsky, Karpov Kasparov. I also wanted a 'K'. My hero by the way is Tal, and his prelogical chess.

I only now noticed your post. I used to play a great deal of chess in college, and participated in tournaments and the like. Even now, I play on the internet. Perhaps you know the site I play on:
http://www.instantchess.com/
Yahoo has a quite active chess site, and so do others.

There has been some written on the psychology of chess players, and especially what goes into making a good player. One thing is clear to me: the personality of a person is very evident in the way he plays chess.

As for the philosophy, I don't know. But you could do worse than to begin by reading Aaron Nimzovich's "My System."

This is perfect for anyone who wants to play chess online:

http://www.soobad.com/files/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=8

All you need to do is exchange IP's (wouldn't the shoutbox be nice for that...) and away you go.

I'll play anyone anytime - shout in the shoutbox if I'm online or PM me - we can exchange IP's and play.

Make your own rules.
