America is no longer running on what the founding fathers created it top be. Maybe the people should begin to protest and voice their opinions like they did in the 60's but hopefully this time it actually works. Is it time for a new revolution? What happen though? At what point did we hand total control to the government? we should, no we NEED to restore the REPUBLIC that our country once was and stop trying to spread democracy. maybe then we could fix the issues inside our country and other countries would stop hating US.

I don't think it is possible to return to what the 'founding fathers' envisioned, so much has changed. They envisioned a country where people were as well armed as the government so they could resist tyranny. They had no idea that the government would have tanks, jets, submarines, battleships and such a vastly well-armed military force. Rebellion is impossible, except by the military itself. But I don't think you really want the founding father's 18th century vision anyway. They believed in the philosophy of Natural Law and Adam Smith economics, both of which are no longer considered efficient views. The 19th century was probably the last chance to fight back, and the results were the Civil War, (which resulted in the general declaration that rebellion within a democratic government was illegal and would be forcibly repressed). Today, any rebel would be called an "insurgent" or a "terrorist", (and whatever techniques you see on the news would be the only ones available).

I don't think a rebellion or revolution would earn back respect from the world. It would actually cast a bad light on the "republic" system of government in general and give a "high five" to Marx's claim in the inevitability of revolution under a class reward system. To gain respect, I think the US needs to simply apply the force of law to show that a republic or a democracy is functional. There ought to be arrests for anyone breaking the law. There are already several efforts under way. Technically, the people of America are the "boss", and if their administrative employees have made a mess of the shop, then its the boss' fault for not taking action. If you look back at democratic actions that *did* work, (look to the early 70's), there are certainly options available -- and a lot of respect can be earned by appealing, rather than rejecting, standards of international law.

A lot of people on this forum are not Americans, so I assume the "we" and "us" you are referring to are the ones that are Americans. What about the non-Americans? Would you agree that people who are not American have a right to defend themselves from actions by a government which they have no control over whatsoever? Would you be willing to support a foreign national who was taking action against American interests which you agree are illegal?

Ethics is the measuring of morality. Morality is the measuring of good. Good is the measuring of benefit. Benefit is the measure of values.
