It's time for another short fiction contest. For the new people, here are the previous years:

2008 results (Paul wins, yay!)
2007 results (Tobias wins)
2006 results (180 Proof wins)
2004/5 results (180 Proof wins)

Rules are the same as last year:
  • Must be more than 500 and less than 2500 words.
  • Must be fiction.
  • No poetry allowed.
  • One submission per person.
  • Must not have been previously posted on PF.
  • Submissions must be plain text or with WSN codes. No Microsoft-Wordese or your quotation marks will show up as odd symbols.

Submissions will be posted anonymously. You may reveal your identity after polling is complete if you wish. Polls will exclude all votes from participants unless we get fewer than 5 non-participators voting.

PM me your entry by December 1st.

Ah, what the hell, I'll give it a shot for a change although I'm more of a poet.

I rustled up about 800 words on Monday and tweaked it today. Now 1st Dec seems a long time away for some critique. Though it probably is a bit pretentious, clichéd and unoriginal (but it's my first time for something like this...).

Mmm... might be fun to hit 'random' three times on Wikipedia and make a fiction from those 3 topics that show up.

"...There was a writer who asked why it was that when we find positive experiences we say that only the physical facts are real, but in negative experiences we believe that reality is subjective. He made an example of those who say that in birth only the pain is real, the joy a subjective point of view, but that in death it is the emotional loss that is the reality." - Tony Ballantyne, Recursion.

Soo.... If I remember correctly, this form has these 3 rules.

1. Plot. Out of the 3 random choices, One must be used for direction of the plot.
2. One of the key characters must be a direct reason why one of the three things are chosen. (for instance, the guy that discovered 9786.)

3. I do not remember it.

My 3 random Wikipedia(English tab) listings are:

9786 Gakutensoku
Camden Medical Centre
Buffalo, illonois
