Biography: My parents are very religious but individually so, they aren't church goers. My grandmother though was the most devout person I ever met. As a kid I was raised a devout Methodist Christian and went to church every week with my grandmother. wanting to gain as much knowledge and understanding about my religion and lord and savior I was a very active participant in church and by age 9 had read through the entirety of the bible. Anyone who has ever read the bible will understand when I say it brought more questions than answers and basically confused the crap out of me, but it isn't why I lost my religion just why I started questioning. Neither my grandmother nor my pastor, nor anybody else could answer these questions satisfactorily which led to more questions and a broadening of my search for answers. By 12, not having found anything to support any of the Judaic faiths, buddhism, or hinduism (or ancient greek polytheism) I declared myself an atheist. spent 4 years contending with friends and family in deep religious and philosophical debate leading me further into investigation and strengthening my position, as well as leading a friend of mine to agnosticism though they're still catholic overall. Also lost a bunch of friends. Thus by age 16 I swore off religious debate, stopped my research, and said "live and let live, I don't need to support my position, I don't ask you to support yours, you can deal with it or leave me alone." This year though I joined a philosophy class in college taught by a reverend and my religious position came back up in a welcoming intellectual atmosphere and I broke down my barrier and no-debate rules. I'm not evangical about atheism, but I do tend to be a bit avid in tearing down theistic positions. I try to keep things civil though, if things start getting out of hand I tend to back off.
