I don't think she would call RainMan high-functioning, becuse in soocial terms, he isn't. His high-function is only in a very narrow area. From what she says 'high-functioning' autistic people are the ones who can interact with the world more successfully than low-functioning.

It reminds me of the many times I've had an 8 by 4 foot (or 4 by 8 for you guys) sheet of plasterboard jammed between my head and the ceiling while I fumble with screws and a battery drill tryng to get the thing screwed up. One's head is a very useful third hand in such circumstances, almost as good as another person.
