Hello,
My name is johnson and I've just started AS Level Philosophy and Ethics at a school in London, to say the standard of teaching we receive is a disgrace is a major understatement. Our teacher tends to open a text book and dictate to us, there is no discussion and learning is minimal. We have just been set our first essay and I have literally no notes and although I have 4 or 5 philosophy and ethics books I'm finding it hard to disect the appropiate information.

What I was wondering was if anyone could give me some basic information on Natural Moral Law, particularly Aquinas and Aristotle's views on the topic? One of the questions we have been asked is 'How does Aquinas use and change Aristotle's ideas on Natural Moral Law?' We haven't even learnt what Aristotle's original ideas were! I'm not looking to copy any information you give me, but learn from it. And does anyone know how we discovered the Primary and Secondary Precepts? I know what they are, but am uncertain as to who first created the idea.

Any help is much appreciated, thank you.

I think it is necessary to give you wider overview of Aquainas's ethis so I suggest reading from these sources:

http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/aristotle-ethics/

I'm not too familiar with the subject so please correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't the idea that God placed a set of laws into mans mind, and it is from these natural laws that we derive our intuitions and ethical beliefs? Yeah, that wasn't very helpful.
