I'm trying to find a comprehensive yet lucid text on the rules of logic and debate, which details the various fallacies and measures to deflect them, but in my search I've come to a number of books of which there seems to be an even mix of supporting and dissenting opinions (amazon reviews). These are some of the texts I've found:

Introduction to Logic
Asking the Right Questions: A Guide to Critical Thinking
The Art of Reasoning
Attacking Faulty Reasoning
Nonsense: Red Herrings, Straw Men and Sacred Cows: How We Abuse Logic in Our Everyday Language

I would like a recommendation, not particularly from this list. I'm just learning this for myself, so I would like to read something that can be readily absorbed and won't turn into a chore.

Not sure if this will help, but I use this resource a lot. Go to

http://www.fallacyfiles.org

It has a lot of information on logic and argumentation, and I remember the man who runs the site has recommended books before, perhaps you can find something. He seems to know his stuff.
