May I inquire as to why so many people's responses are "joke responses"? (and please no "oh but its not, I'm really 1) brain in a vat, or 2) an old goat, or 3) etc.).

Jokey responses serve at least 4 functions -

They might be, but not necessarily, attempting to criticize the request for personal information in a round-about way;
or
they could be, hard to say, be making an attempt to participate without revealing very much (or anything at all - in which case, option 3),
or
conceivably, they are making an attempt at humor,
or
they may not want to rip the veil of secrecy and mystery that surrounds their persona

A more penetrating question might be, "May I inquire as to why so many people responded with what appear to be factual information?" After all, we all chose stage names rather than attaching our real names to our comments, so why drop the pretense now? Are philosophy discussion group participants predisposed to whip out the facts when someone approaches with a clipboard in hand?

Another question that could be asked is, "Would individuals write comments in a different way if they wrote under their real names?"
I don't think SERIOUS comments would be composed differently (maybe more carefully spelled and punctuated) but there might be fewer caustic or 'abusive' comments made, not that anyone here needs to be protected from the occasional unrequested rinse in parasite-killing sheep dip. But then, are the sheep ever asked?

I wondered about this, it was almost as if the rest of the information requests were meant to make one less obvious.

For the record, there was no misinformation within my reply. Even when I mocked myself for misspelling "than" I did misspell "than", I added the bracketed part in an edit.

Also, if you think that you can let your guard down around lister bums and survive, then you have never felt the air be permeated by the thick, stomach-churning stench of Listerine mouthwash for a thousand yard radius.

2. Gender - Male

3. Age - 44

4. Ethnicity - Human, down to particulars 3/4 caucasian, 1/4 Native American Indian

5. Sexual Orientation - choice of Heterosexual as the majority of my character is so, but no one is 100% one or the other

6. Highest Level of Education - 6 years undergrad and 2 years gradschool

11. Do you believe your education helps in your occupation? (as compared to your fellow worker) - Yes, as I work with, rather against, Sport Scientists. Philosophy is an advantage as I can do a bit of "dogma prevention".

12. Do you believe your IQ helps in your occupation? (as compared to your fellow worker) - It is a major disadvantage when dealing with them, but perhaps a major advantage in that my "abstract reasoning" is better than my so-call collegues. Then again, perhaps my IQ is lower than my collegues?

I only read bits and pieces, but listen quite a bit, does that count? Most of my Philosophy is derrived from the lyrics of music and what I observe.

17. Does philosophy(ies) help you in your work place? - Yes, as it keep me centered and sane

18. [Final] Do you believe you are a constructive member of society? - I have no idea. You need to ask society about that one.

MEOW!

I am not one to attribute that which I cannot understand immediately to be god(s)-perhaps I will never understand, but god(s) are not defined by my lack of understanding-this is the foundation of dogmas, the pressing of connotative values into the realm of dennotative meaning. - MOS

I hope you tell us the results of your survey once you get enough data. It would be neat to know the percentages of the answers for those questions smiling face

"As being is to becoming, so is truth to belief. If then, Socrates, amid the many opinions about the gods and the generation of the universe, we are not able to give notions which are altogether and in every respect exact and consistent with one another, do not be surprised. Enough, if we adduce probabilities as likely as any others; for we must remember that I who am the speaker, and you who are the judges, are only mortal men" Plato
