Could anybody recommend any philosophy books under roughly 300 pages? The shorter the better really.

I have dyslexia and am a very slow reader. Shorter books i find are just easier going.

Thanks

There isn't really a big amount of big books there. You can also get collections. Dont know on english, but there are books that include interesting parts of philosophers works, ussualy each philosopher gets five or six pages, than you will know which philosopher you like most and buy his books.
Also there is a tipic here that has interesting suggestions, check it out.

Before starting an argument, do some research, it might be proven it is right/wrong

I have a book you may be interested in, it's called '50 philosophy ideas you really need to know' By Ben Dupre.
It gives every idea 4 pages or less which get directly to the point and explains the criticism too. Each idea is set out in a very easy to read way. Im very new to philosophy and this book helps get a good idea of different parts of philosophy.

The total number of pages comes to about 205. Ill probably read it again soon since its been awhile since my first read.

The best precise on western philosophy is undoubtedly "Introducing Philosophy" by Dave Robinson and Judy Groves. Its 176 pages and every page is illustrated. It briefly covers all the major figures in western philosophy and the ideas they are credited with.

I really can't recommend this book more strongly.

If you happen to visit the Philippines, you could go to Fullybooked (it's a bookstore) in Taguig. They have a large collection of philosophy books, and most of them are short.

Have you considered collections of articles on a theme? The articles run 10-35 pages each. Oxford press has a series called "Readings in Philosophy." You could check out their website and find titles that interest you. alternatively, you could find the titles at a library and read the introduction and one or two articles as a way of investigating an area of philosophy.

The Problems of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell. Short and covers a lot of ground. Good for someone looking for an introduction to philosophy written by a great philosopher. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Problems-P...rand-Russell/dp/0192854232

Kant's Prolegomena to Any Future Metaphysics. This is Kant's own condensed version of his ideas - and a great deal of the ideas developed in it still resonate today. Particularly if you're into cognitive psychology. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Prolegomen...ooks&qid=1251555006&sr=1-1

Are you looking for a philosophical work itself, or a summary/abstract of one?

"Existentialism is a Humanism" - Sartre. Prolegomena to any future metaphysics - Kant. The Myth of Sisyphus - Camus. Meditations of First Philosophy - Descartes. Any of Plato's dialogues. I think Aristotle's books are under 300 pages. Also, check out philosophy journals like "The Philosophical Journal," "The Oxford Journal of Philosophy," and "Mind."There is a lot of material out there if you look.

Lots of philosophy books are under 300 pages. Here are a few, from shortest to longest:

J. S. Mill, Utilitarianism

Alvin Plantinga, God, Freedom, and Evil

Hume, Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion

Hume, An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding

J. L. Austin, How to Do Things with Words

John Rawls, Justice as Fairness: A Restatement

J. L. Mackie, Ethics

J. L. Mackie, The Miracle of Theism
