I suddenly feel compelled to ponder, write, imagine, relax, indulge and enjoy anything in the realm of philosophy and mind shattering topics when listening to Beethoven. The music is truly uplifting. It helps brain activity and is scientifically proven as such.

Honestly, the next time an essay is due, throw on some Beethoven and just indulge yourself in your homework. It will help you, I promise. If you don't believe me, listen to Eminem albums on repeat while trying to write a 5 pager, tell me how much it helps.

Care to share what you like to listen to while writing?

I will force feed you enlightenment and you will crap gratitude

Music is the soundtrack of my life and as I have sometimes mentioned here, my "religion". I rule nothing out (not even Rap! - urban contemporary folk music?). Being a person with a reading disability, a strange form of dyslixia, I often find inspriation, both positive and negative (often unintentional), from lyric of many songs. I make no judgement value as to time and space where the text might come from. Music is music and if it speaks to your "soul" (not that I believe in a "soul" - a metaphor - deal with it) it is very powerful. I find it a good way to kick my preconceptions in the ass a bit.

As for Beethoven, I have quite a bit, but often I need something else. Eminem makes me laugh more than Ludi. XTC is about as good as it get for me, with regard to text. Then again, my CD changer just jumped from Samuel Barber to Primus. I can get behind that.

Be excellent to another and party on dudes!

I am not one to attribute that which I cannot understand immediately to be god(s)-perhaps I will never understand, but god(s) are not defined by my lack of understanding-this is the foundation of dogmas, the pressing of connotative values into the realm of dennotative meaning. - MOS

Depends on what I'm listening to, if I'm listening to anything at all. I usually smoke alot when writing, though...

Mozart's string quartets for writing, Mozart's miscellaneous keyboard works for reading and sleeping. Symphonies and Divertimentis for driving around town and Litanies and Arias for showers and housework.

On occasion I'll listen to Stan Getz in the car.

Beautiful.

Please excuse me if I sound like I am rejcting all other Genre's. I am simply pointing out that Classical Composure's are mind relaxers and I am find of them.

You could find me listening to Rap, Hardcore (and I do mosh), Trance (I have been to raves), Jazz, Classic Rock and many unusual hard to define Genre's. Oh, not to mention...I listen to internet shmeegles and SNL skits (like a boss)

Classical music, though not the only music I listen to, is never inappropriate. Trying to listen to other music, especially radio play, after listening to classical music is jarring. Though lyric-driven music, like Neutral Milk Hotel or Bob Dylan, is always a welcome change - melding song with poetry.
