Institutions that attempt to accomodate changing times end up collapsing and being replaced by still more flexible institutions, while institutions that instead enforce relatively unchanging principles endure. Islam, Judaism and Orthodox Christianity have survived for thousands of years without making much in the way of essential changes to the dogmas by which they are defined.
